A man who smashed a glass in a woman’s face in an unprovoked assault has been handed an 18-month custodial sentence.
Belfast Crown Court yesterday heard that Jordan Nike McAteer (19) was drinking in the Crusaders Football Club bar on April 9 last year when he first threw his beer over Ashleigh Dodds and then threw the glass into her face, leaving her with a laceration.
McAteer, from Nendrum Gardens in Newtownabbey, is currently in custody, serving a sentence for robbery.
Despite a plea from solicitor advocate Paul Farrell for the judge not to interfere with McAteer’s release date in March, Belfast Crown Court Judge Gordon Kerr QC told him he could not agree to that as “each piece of offending should be punished”.
