200 entries for RTE's Irish Euro song selection process
Ireland could have its best chance yet of recreating its historic success at the Eurovision after more than 200 entries were submitted under RTE's new Euro song selection process.
The broadcaster announced last month that it was reverting back to the public process after four years of the 'mentor' system.
An RTE spokeswoman revealed that well over 200 songs had been received from members of the public by yesterday's closing date.
Hopefuls were asked to submit an original song, performer and any suggested performance or staging details, one of which will be selected to represent Ireland at the 60th annual Eurovision in Vienna, Austria next May.
A number of well-known faces are believed to have entered, including former X Factor contestant Mary Byrne.
