300 bottles of booze seized from merry exam teenagers
North coast police seized more than 300 bottles of booze from a large crowd of teenagers partying in the street after receiving their exam results.
Cops in Coleraine targeted the wannabe sozzled scholars after receiving complaints from local residents about young people drinking alcohol and urinating in public.
Most of the underage drinkers were aged between 15 and 17, according to the police. Photos of the confiscated liquor bottles were posted on the PSNI North Coast Facebook page.
Commenting on the alcohol seizure, the local PSNI wrote on their page: "Responding to complaints that young persons were urinating and consuming alcohol in the Coleraine area, police stopped a large group of people, most of which were under 18, and seized approximately 300 bottles of assorted alcohol."
The police team highlighted the risks to young people of excessive alcohol consumption - especially illegal underage drinking.
The PSNI said: "We understand that people want to celebrate. However, there are risks involved, especially around young people and alcohol. Most were 15 to 17 years old.
"In the interests of these young people's safety, the alcohol was seized and disposed of.
"Please also be aware that young people are committing offences by purchasing and consuming alcohol."
