A 34-year-old man has been charged with a number of serious terrorist offences.

Detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch have charged the man with belonging to or professing to belong to a proscribed organisation, conspiracy to possess explosives with intent to endanger life, preparation of terrorist acts and receiving training or instruction in the making or use of weapons for terrorism.

He is expected to appear before Newry Magistrates Court on Monday October 24.

As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

It is understood that the charges have been made in connection with significant and serious terrorist offences detected during an investigation by Serious Crime Branch on November 10, 2014 at a house in the Ardcarn Park area of Newry whereupon 12 men were arrested at the time.

The 34 year old man was arrested in the Belfast area on Friday.
