£360k community cash boost for Newtownabbey
Funding of £360,000 has been set aside to help communities in the Newtownabbey area that are at risk of social or environmental decline.
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland yesterday announced funding for the Carnmoney, New Mossley and Monkstown areas. This funding will be provided by the Executive through the department’s Areas at Risk programme.
Mr McCausland said the cash can be used on initiatives which address education, health, youth and unemployment needs.
“This funding will allow residents of all ages to get involved in activities to help build a stronger community which everyone can feel part of,” he said.
Newtownabbey Borough Council is collaborating with the Department for Social Development on the delivery of the programme. The council has recently appointed a consultant, Blueprint Development, to develop an action plan that will address identified need across the three areas.
Deputy mayor Dineen Walker said: “I welcome this funding announcement and look forward to the opportunities it will create. The assistance will help build a better future for these communities.”
Anyone wishing to be involved in the consultation process can contact Newtownabbey Borough Council on 028 90 340000.
