Land at a sports centre in Londonderry could be used for camping space to cope with an influx of visitors expected in the city for the All Ireland Fleadh.

Organisers of the Fleadh expect 400,000 visitors to converge on the city from August 12-18.

But the Fleadh committee is hoping to use land at Templemore Sports complex as a temporary campsite to alleviate a shortfall in hotel accommodation. This will be one of four sites identified as suitable places.

Fleadh co-ordinator Gearóid Ó hEára said: “We are looking at the soccer pitches at Templemore Sports Complex, Prehen Playing Fields as well as the Ruby Club at Judges Row, who are very anxious to be a camping site.

“The people at Top of the Hill in the Waterside are looking for us to use the Immaculate Conception school grounds as a site.

“These communities actually want the Fleadh to come into their areas, and of course we want communities to benefit,” he added.
