75-year-old pensioner to stand trial over 'extreme' child porn images

A 75-year-old man is to stand trial accused of a catalogue of child porn offences, a judge ruled today.

Frank Malone faces a total of 60 charges which involve making and possessing indecent images.

All of the alleged offences were committed between October last year and January.

Malone, of Cromac Wood Court, Belfast, appeared before the city's Magistrates' Court for preliminary enquiry proceedings.

Using a walking frame for support, he was allowed to remain seated in the public gallery throughout the hearing.

The pensioner faces 25 charges each of making and having an indecent photograph of a child.

A further 10 counts against him relate to the alleged possession of extreme pornographic images.

Asked if he understood the charges against him, he replied: "Yes."

Malone declined to say anything in response to the alleged offences or call witnesses at this stage.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall accepted a prima facie case had been established against him.

She then granted a prosecution application to have Malone returned for trial at Belfast Crown Court.

He was released on continuing bail until that hearing gets underway on a date to be set.

As part of his release conditions he must live at an address approved by police.
