90-year-old man dies in blaze at apartment in Co Fermanagh

A 90-year-old man named locally as Francey Callaghan has died after a fire at an apartment in Co Fermanagh.

Another man in his 60s who tried to help and a woman from an adjacent flat were taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.

A spokeswoman for the Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two fire appliances from Enniskillen fire station and two fire appliances from Lisnaskea fire station attended the scene at Main Street, Tempo.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the flat and sadly found a 90-year-old male dead in the hallway of the flat.

"Fire crews dealt with a significant fire in the property."

It is understood the flat, which is above a greengrocer's shop, has been destroyed.

Sinn Fein MLA Phil Flanagan said the Tempo community has been left stunned by the tragedy.

The PSNI said the cause of the blaze was under investigation.
