A1 fatal crash: Nurse Muriel Wing has died following a collision between a coach and a car on Friday
A woman aged 65 has died in Friday morning's crash between a coach and a car on the A1 in Northern Ireland, police have confirmed.
She has been named locally as Muriel Wing, a nurse who worked at Craigavon Area Hospital.
The collision between a bus and a silver coloured Volkswagen Passat occurred shortly after 8am. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the road was closed in both directions for a number of hours following the collision but has now re-opened.
Inspector Sandy Johnston has appealed to motorists who were travelling on the A1 this morning in either direction and who witnessed the collision to contact police in Lisburn or the Collison Investigation Unit on 101.
There has been heavy congestion and long delays in the area throughout the day and that is expected to continue into Friday evening.
Paramedics attended the scene and three people from the car were taken to hospital. They were described as "walking wounded".
No-one in the coach was injured.
The fire service also attended the scene.
