An aerial photograph of one of Northern Ireland's busiest roads has been selected as one of the top 10 images in a UK-wide competition.

The overhead picture of the A8 junction at Ballynure, a major intersection connecting Belfast and Larne, was taken last August by Castlereagh man Colin Jones (54) through his work with the Land and Property Service.

The competition was launched by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and celebrates major infrastructure projects across the UK.

Colin told the Belfast Telegraph an unexpected resemblance to a Disney character was part of the inspiration.

He said: "The funny thing is we joked about it, seeing the two roundabouts from the sky, that it looked like the character Sid out of the Disney movie Ice Age.

"But I look at it as a really good bit of infrastructure that was spectacular for Northern Ireland."
