The Linen Hall Library has been rewarded with a £50,000 grant to restore its ‘’Languages of Ulster’’ collection which have never been viewed by the public — almost 2,000 rare and antique books, including the first Belfast printing of the poems of Robert Burns, are to be conserved and opened up to general public.
Librarian of the Linen Hall Library, John Killen, said: “This is a most exciting and challenging project, which will bring to a new audience surprising and hitherto unknown material relating to our cultural history. One such item is a contemporary account of the Battle of the Boyne in Spanish.”
NI Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund Paul Mullan said: ‘’We are delighted to be involved in this project to rediscover the hidden gems of the Languages of Ulster Collection.”
