All planning meetings to be recorded
Future meetings of Belfast City Council's planning committee are to be recorded on audio.
Alliance councillor Michael Long made the proposal, which was passed by 28 votes to 27.
Mr Long said that the city should be leading the way in terms of transparency.
Both the DUP and the UUP voted in opposition to the motion, arguing that the council had received legal advice recommending against the audio recording of official meetings.
Planning powers were transferred to the 11 councils created earlier this year following the review of public administration in Northern Ireland.
Currently, full meetings of Belfast City Council are streamed live on the internet.
They are also open to the public to attend.
