Altnagelvin Hospital: Sickness closes ward after outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea
A ward at Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry has been shut after an outbreak of sickness - with four patients and two staff suffering vomiting and diarrhoea.
The Western Trust has also asked the public not to visit patients at the hospital if they have been feeling unwell.
Several bouts of sickness in recent days have led to the Trust closing Ward 8 to new admissions.
Geraldine McKay of the Western Trust said "advice and increased infection control measures" had been taken.
"The public has an important role to play by not visiting the hospital if they are feeling unwell, particularly if they have diarrhoea and/or vomiting," she said.
"And, if someone has been unwell we would advise them to wait until at least 72 hours after they have had diarrhoea and/or vomiting before visiting the hospital.
"Those who are visiting are asked to thoroughly wash their hands before and after visiting, for their own protection as well as for the prevention of the spread of infection to patients."
