Ancient law on Belfast markets may change
Outdoor markets could spring up across Belfast if plans to update legislation are given the go-ahead.
The City Council has opened a public consultation to gauge opinion on a new policy which aims to change the 17th century legislation preventing anyone setting up various markets within a seven-mile radius of the city without council consent.
"The council agreed that it should explore and develop a policy that ensures that those rights are used in a way that contributes positively to the vitality of the city," said councillor Christopher Stalford, chairman of the council's development committee.
