AP McCoy in race for Sports Personality of the Year
AP McCoy is making his way through the field as the odds fall on the retired champion jockey becoming the next BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
Chris Froome heads the betting at 7/2, and current holder Lewis Hamilton is in second place at 4/1, said BoyleSports.
But the bookie said support for the Moneyglass superstar to win is growing fast.
McCoy, who won the prize back in 2010, has been subject to heavy backing in the past 48 hours and is now in third place priced at 9/2 from 6/1.
Golfer Rory McIlroy is still a rank outsider at 50/1.
If he crosses the line first, McCoy will follow in the footsteps of F1 drivers Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill, as well as boxer Henry Cooper, to win the coveted crown for a second time.
