Ards council wins customer service award
Ards Borough Council has taken gold at the 2010 Northern Ireland Tourist Board awards for customer service — the first council in Northern Ireland to receive the accolade.
The council was recognised at the NITB ‘Welcome to Excellence Gold Awards' ceremony for its in-house training initiative which saw six staff become accredited ‘Welcome to Excellence' trainers, who then delivered a tailored customer-focussed training programme to fellow employees across the organisation.
The NITB Welcome to Excellence Gold Award requires an entire organisation to commit to the promise of service excellence, with 90% of all staff completing a designated Welcome Host, Host-plus or Welcome All training programme and with an on-going promise of continued support for staff who deliver on the promise day and daily.
“This initiative was developed and initiated by staff themselves, so this gold award is a real tribute to them, in particular the trainers who work in a range of roles across the organisation,” said Mayor of Ards, Councillor David Smyth.
