Ards dogs moved to new centre

Stray dogs found in Ards will be going to kennels in Downpatrick, now that the USPCA kennels in Carryduff have closed.

Corran Kennels and Rehoming Centre at 40 Tobercorran Road, Downpatrick, will be providing the kennelling service for Ards Borough Council.

Every year, around 230 stray dogs are collected by the Council.

Richard Brittain, Borough Inspector, said: “Many people may be unaware that it is, in fact, a legal requirement not to allow your dog to stray and to ensure that its licence and ID tag are attached to the collar. Ensuring a pet is easily identifiable means dog owners can have their animals returned to them quickly, often without the need for kennels and without the associated expense,” said Mr Brittain. “To this end, we are establishing ‘holding kennels’ where stray dogs will be held for a short period before being transferred to the main kennels in Downpatrick.”

Any dog owner who believes their pet may have been impounded can contact the Borough Inspector’s Office on 9182 4005 or Corran Kennels on 4485 1426.
