Army experts deal with pipe-bomb
Police have said a pipe-bomb found in north Belfast was viable.
At about 4pm on Saturday police received a report of a suspicious object in the Shanlieve Park area.
Army and police attended and a number of homes were evacuated.
The alert ended at 7.30pm.
Police said the object had been examined and was a “viable pipe bomb-type device”. It has been taken away for further examination.
Meanwhile, a security alert in west Belfast earlier on Saturday was declared a hoax.
Army bomb disposal experts were called to examine a suspicious object which was discovered at Stockmans Avenue.
A number of people were moved from their homes during the alert.
They were allowed to return a short time later when the alert was declared a hoax.
