Arrest after paramilitary-style shooting in Belfast
A man was arrested last night just hours after a paramilitary-style shooting was carried out in north Belfast.
The victim - a man in his late 20s - was shot in both legs at around 8pm in the Carlisle Parade area of the New Lodge.
His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Within hours PSNI officers investigating the shooting arrested a man aged in his 40s.
Sinn Fein councillor JJ Magee expressed his disgust at the attack.
"Again we see a self-appointed gang carrying out an attack on a man against the wishes of the vast majority of this community," he said. "These people offer nothing to the people of the New Lodge but threats and intimidation and they need to stop hiding behind the name of republicanism.
"There is no justification for attacks like this and those responsible need to stop acting against the interests of their community."
