A house destroyed in an arson attack in Co Armagh at the weekend was being built for a well-known GAA footballer.

The two-storey detached house on the Monog Road outside Crossmaglen was attacked in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It was being built for Crossmaglen Rangers player Danny O’Callaghan and was nearing completion.

Fire engines from Crossmaglen, Newtownhamilton and Newry as well as a water tanker from Warrenpoint station were sent to what the Fire Service described as a “well developed” blaze.

Anyone who was in the area between midnight and 2.15am is asked to contact police.
