Bafta Awards 2015: James Nesbitt v Benedict Cumberbatch for best actor while it's hard luck for snubbed Jamie Dornan and The Fall

James Nesbitt will go head to head with Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch in the battle for best actor at the 2015 Bafta TV Awards.

The Northern Ireland actor who starred in BBC drama The Missing is up against Cumberbatch in the leading actor category alongside Toby Jones for his work in Marvellous and Jason Watkins in The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies.

This is the third time Cumberbatch has been nominated for his role as Sherlock Holmes.

Contenders in 12 categories were announced with The Missing, Line of Duty, Happy Valley and Marvellous leading the field with three nods each.

Belfast actor Stephen Rea secured a nomination for best supporting actor in The Honourable Woman.

Police corruption drama Line of Duty, which the second series was filmed in Northern Ireland, has secured a number of nominations including best Drama Series - which will see it go against The Missing.

It also secured nominations for best leading actress for Keeley Hawes and supporting actress for Vicky McClure.

HBO series Game of Thrones which is filmed across locations in Northern Ireland has been nominated for the Radio Time Audience Award which is voted for by members of the public.

Meanwhile in the comedy category there are nominations for Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan O'Carroll nominated for best male performance in a comedy programme.

Graham Norton's Friday night chat show The Graham Norton Show has been nominated for best Comedy and Comedy Entertainment Programme while Chris O'Dowd's sitcom Moone Boy has been nominated for best scripted comedy.

However hit BBC crime drama The Fall which stars Holywood actor Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson which is entirely filmed in Belfast did not receive any nominations.

The awards ceremony takes place on 10 May, hosted for the ninth time by Graham Norton.
