Ballinlea Road crash: 'Good Samaritan' motorist injured in collision while offering to help with the recovery of a forklift truck

A man offering to help with the recovery of a forklift truck from a ditch in the Ballinlea Road area, near Stranocum, has been injured in a collision.

Police are appealing for information following the incident at around 4.50pm on Monday.

It is thought that a lorry was recovering the forklift and the man in his 20s left his car to offer assistance.

He has been taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are currently believed to be serious but not life threatening.

Inspector Colin Reeves said: "I would ask anyone who knows anything about this serious rtc to contact Coleraine Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 918 of 13/02/17."

Part of the Ballinlea Road currently remains closed to traffic.
