Two people have been taken to hospital after a four-vehicle collision on the Ballyduggan Road near Downpatrick.

One of those injured was taken to Down Hospital, while a second was driven to Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital.

Neither are thought to be seriously hurt.

SDLP Councillor Colin McGrath said: "There were a number of accidents on the main route outside Downpatrick today and the road was exceptionally busy with holiday traffic

"With overnight heavy rain and winds combined with an increase in traffic flow, I would urge extra caution on our roads this Christmas time. I hope that all of those injured in these accidents today have a full recovery.

"I have also asked Roads Service to carry out an emergency check of this road to ensure that there is nothing structurally wrong with it, and to ensure the road is clear of debris to prevent further incident."
