Banbridge crash claims life of Ian Cameron - second man fights for his life
A Co Down man has died in a road crash that left another man fighting for his life.
Named locally as Ian Cameron and understood to be from the Banbridge area, the victim died of his injuries following the collision on the A1 close to the town yesterday.
Emergency services were called to accident near The Outlet where they attempted to save Mr Cameron, who was aged in his 40s. However, he died at the scene.
The other victim was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where his condition has been described as critical.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended the scene with a rapid response paramedic and three A&E crews.
The A1 remained closed until 10pm last night as police carried out their investigations.
Inspector Nigel Henry said: "The collision, involving two cars, occurred at around 12.30pm.
"One man died at the scene and another has been taken to hospital.
"The road is expected to remain closed for a number of hours while a thorough investigation into the collision is carried out."
The latest incident takes the number of deaths on Northern Ireland's roads to 28 this year.
Mr Cameron's death comes days after three people lost their lives in less than 48 hours.
