Banbridge District Council bins its monthly rubbish collections
Monthly rubbish collections are being scrapped in Banbridge, it has been announced.
Homes will return to having their bins emptied every fortnight from April.
Banbridge District Council began monthly collections in January 2014 on two routes as part of a scheme to boost recycling.
Last August it emerged the trial would be extended.
But it will end next month when the council is absorbed into the new Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon super council.
The council said it would "bank the trial findings for further consideration".
The council said the trial was aimed at reducing non-recyclable waste going to landfill
DUP MP David Simpson, whose party wanted fortnightly collections, welcomed the move.
"I welcome the Damascus Road conversion of many and am delighted that they have taken our lead and a common sense approach has prevailed," the Upper Bann representative said.
