Beer lovers will be able to enjoy a taste of Bavaria as Belfast prepares to host its first ever German Bierfest in May.

The beverages on offer at the Custom House Square event will include Weissbier, Festbier and Craftbier from the Bavarian Festbeer Brewery.

Bierfest will run from May 18-22 and is based on the concept of a German sommerfest - summer festival - featuring market stalls, a beer garden and funfair.

"We want to bring a new attraction to Belfast and we expect up to 10,000 visitors," said festival director Carsten Raun. "And people of all ages are welcome."

Revellers can enjoy live German music while seated on traditional long benches and can choose between two gardens serving 'Bier' or sparkling wine 'Sekt'.

There is a limited capacity of 1,200 seats so booking online is advised.

Tickets and information are available from http://belfast.bierfest.co.uk/tickets or by ringing 020 3239 5070.
