A BBC journalist in Northern Ireland has been charged with rape.

Sean O'Halloran, 29, from Northland Road in Londonderry, works as a broadcaster at Radio Foyle.

He appeared before Londonderry Magistrates Court today, accused of raping a woman in May last year.

The journalist faces two additional charges of sexual assault on the same date.

A prosecution lawyer said she believed the defendant had a case to answer.

When asked if he had anything to say to the charges, he replied "no".

The District Judge said that as part of his bail conditions the defendant must continue to reside at his Northland Road address in Derry and he must not contact the complainant nor any other witnesses in the case.

He was released on bail of £500 until the next hearing at Crown Court on January 6.
