Belfast beauty Rebecca Maguire narrowly missed out on the Miss Ireland crown on Saturday evening despite her stunning looks impressing the judges at the finals of the glittering competition.
Chosen from heats all over the island, 34 beauty queens competed in the grand final in Dublin.
Gorgeous brunette Rebecca from Andersonstown had been hoping it would be second time lucky after being pipped to top spot last year.
She qualified for the 2012 finals after winning the Miss Wright Venue heat earlier this year.
The 20-year-old Queen’s pharmacy student had been widely tipped to take the crown and had received the backing of Ireland’s only Miss World winner Rosanna Davison.
Rosanna — who won the title in 2003 — tweeted her support for the former Dominican College pupil before the final in the Ballsbridge Hotel.
“I was so pleased when she tweeted me a couple of days ago to wish me well,” said Rebecca ahead of Saturday’s final.
She had “a posse of about 20 people in Dublin” who supported her, including her mum and dad Charlotte and Declan.
But it wasn’t to be for Rebecca, who came second for the second year running.
The winner was Miss Mayo Marie Hughes who will represent Ireland in Miss World in Inner Mongolia, China, in August. Miss Derry stunner Katie McAuley — a 21-year-old student nurse — was placed third.
The black-tie ceremony was attended by a host of Irish celebs, including former Miss Ireland Emma Waldron and Dublin footballer Eamon Fennell.
