Belfast building site blaze is blamed on youths
Firefighters raced to the scene of a suspected arson attack on a building site in the Torrens Drive area of north Belfast last night.
According to locals, a fire had been lit by youths who gather nightly at the building site, which was previously occupied by a police station.
The youths were spotted climbing a crane, and later setting fire to building materials.
One local resident said: "They have gathered here almost nightly. The site is never secured correctly.
"I have had to call the fire service multiple times now."
The site belongs to the Fold Housing Association group, which plans to build five homes there.
North Belfast MLA Alban Maginness called the incident "an outrage."
He added: "Fold has done very good work in the area, and people will be outraged and very upset about this incident."
The Fold organisation could not be reached for comment last night.
