Belfast chicken thief jailed for nine months

'It's not my fault, I'm in a movie'

A man who stole packs of chicken and became abusive in a hospital has been jailed for nine months.

As Michael Scott left the dock at Belfast Magistrates' Court yesterday he shouted: "It's not my fault, I'm in a movie."

The 28-year-old, of no fixed address, was charged with common assault, criminal damage, assault on police, disorderly behaviour and stealing 16 packs of chicken.

He was arrested after an incident at a Spar filling station on the Ravenhill Road on October 20.

After pushing a garage manager he threw plants at a car and banged his head against a stanchion.

He was taken to the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald for treatment to his injuries, but was abusive to staff.

Damage was caused to a hospital floor and benches.

The court heard that Scott had 160 previous convictions.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall imposed a five-month sentence for the chicken theft and lesser, concurrent terms for the assaults, criminal damage and disorderly behaviour.

She added four months by activating a previous suspended sentence.
