Belfast hotels boss Rana to join peers on Tory benches
One of Northern Ireland's top hotel bosses says he is joining the Conservative Party as he believes Prime Minister Theresa May can "get the right deal" for Northern Ireland in Brexit talks.
Lord Diljit Rana - who operates Belfast's Holiday Inns, Hotel Ibis and Ramada Plaza - has been a sitting cross-bench peer in the House of Lords since 2004.
He was a staunch Remain supporter and warned that Brexit would have a "disastrous impact" on Northern Ireland's tourism industry and could lead to job losses.
Writing in today's Belfast Telegraph, he says that by working with the Government "I believe I will be able to advance the common causes we care about".
