Belfast house ransacked by would-be burglars who fled when disturbed

Published 10/02/2016

Police are investigating after two men fled after ransacking the upstairs of a Belfast house.

At approximately 12pm two men broke into the house in the Carnan Street area of Belfast.

They rifled through drawers in the upstairs of the property before fleeing from the scene when they were disturbed.

One of the men is described as being approximately 5ft 9inches tall, medium build and wearing a black jacket, cap and blue jeans.

The second man is described as being approximately 5ft 7 inches tall, medium build and wearing a black jacket, black hat and blue jeans.

It is not believed that anything was stolen during this incident.

Detective Constable Siobhan McIlhone said: “I would ask anyone who has any information about this incident to contact Detectives at Reactive and Organised Crime at Musgrave PSNI Station on the non-emergency number 101.

Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.

She added: "I am asking people to work with their neighbours and keep an eye on your local neighbourhood. Many of these criminals are opportunists. They will commit burglaries when the opportunity presents itself. By cutting down on the opportunities we can cut down on the crime."
