This is the shocking scene of devastation left in Belfast late on Saturday night, after a serious car crash. The dark-coloured BMW car left the road and appeared to have careered across a grass verge, before colliding with a tree at the side of the carriageway.

It is not believed anyone was seriously injured in the incident that took place on the Old Golf Course Road, close to Colin Glen Golf Course, at around 9.10pm.

A witness to the crash reported seeing a number of youths run away from the car. The PSNI issued a warning to motorists over the weekend to slow down due to hazardous weather conditions. The Met Office had released a severe weather warning of heavy rain over the weekend, as well as gusts of wind up to 80mph forecast in areas.

Sinn Fein councillor Stephen Magennis said the incident could have been much more serious, with people badly injured.

He said he was relieved that no one involved in the incident had been seriously injured, adding it had been lucky there had not been a tragic outcome.
