Belfast man accused of attacking uncle with bottle
A man was remanded into custody today accused of attacking his uncle with a bottle.
Paul Smith, 32, faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, threats to kill and possession of an offensive weapon.
The alleged offences were committed in west Belfast last Sunday.
Appearing before the city's Magistrates Court today, Smith, of Victoria Parade, Belfast, spoke only to confirm he understood the charges.
A PSNI constable said he was opposing bail due to the risk of interference with the alleged victim and other witnesses.
"They are all family members," the officer said.
Defence solicitor Philip Breen questioned whether the charges would be pursued.
He also disclosed that the alleged offences related to an incident during a drinking session.
However, District Judge Fiona Bagnall refused bail and remanded Smith in custody to appear again next month.
