A man has been injured in a paramilitary-style shooting in Belfast.

The 35-year-old was shot in the legs in Springview Walk, off the Springfield Road.

The incident was reported shortly after 7.10pm.

Ambulance crew sped to the scene and administered first aid to the victim.

The injured man was then taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police in forensic suits later examined the scene in the darkness.

There is nothing to suggest that the shooting was linked to a suspicious death in Divis Tower in west Belfast last night.

This is believed to have been the 16th paramlitary-style shooting this year. Recent PSNI statistics reported that there were 22 non-fatal paramilitary shootings between October 2015 and this September.
