A Belfast supermarket owner has been fined £5,000 and received two suspended jail sentences for food safety offences.
Belfast City Council brought the prosecution against Lalu Ali, who ran the Bangla Supermarket on the lower Ormeau Road, after council officers detected breaches of food safety legislation.
Mr Ali, from Ava Crescent in the city, was sentenced to two concurrent three-month sentences, suspended for two years, for 14 separate offenses between 13 and 23 March 2009.
The court was told the premises has since changed its name to the Bangla Bazar.
The breaches included selling food that was unsafe; failing to keep the premises clean; and failing to ensure that adequate hand washing facilities were provided.
