Belfast street opens to two-way traffic

By Linda Stewart

Hope Street in Belfast is to open to two-way traffic late this Sunday.

It means another northbound route in Belfast city centre for traffic on Great Victoria Street — travelling via Hope Street, Sandy Row, Durham Street and College Square North.

The junction of Sandy Row, Hope Street and Linfield Road will be closed to through traffic from 6pm on Saturday, October 27 until approximately 8pm on Sunday, October 28 to allow the necessary works to be carried out.

However, local access will be maintained at all times.

As with all road works, the weather may impact on progress, particularly in the autumn and winter months, the Department of Regional Development said.

The junction of Sandy Row, Hope Street and Linfield Road will be controlled by traffic signals during the work.

Hope Street will be closed again for a short period in mid-November to complete resurfacing.

Signs will be provided giving advance notice of this work.

The resurfacing of footpaths at the back of City Hall is due to be completed in the next few weeks.
