Belfast Telegraph named Website of the Year
The Belfast Telegraph has been named Best Regional News Website in the UK for the second year running at the Online Media Awards in London.
The awards, handed out at a ceremony held at the Emirates Stadium, also saw Channel 4 win Website of the Year, Best Social Media and Best Site for News-Led Journalism and Technical Innovation categories.
The latest award follows the Belfast Telegraph being named Newspaper of the Year at the prestigious CIPR Northern Ireland Media Awards last week.
The paper's Weekend magazine was named Supplement of the Year, Deputy Editor Gail Walker was named Features Journalist of the Year, Consumer Correspondent Claire McNeilly was named Business Journalist of the Year and Deborah McAleese won Scoop of the Year.
Belfast Telegraph Online Editor Jerome Crolly described the Online Media Award as "recognition of Independent News and Media's commitment to building strong and engaging multi-media platforms".
He also paid tribute to the "dedication, news-gathering skills and creativity" of the digital journalists at belfasttelegraph.co.uk.
Carla Buzasi, editor in chief of The Huffington Post UK was named Online Editor of the Year and Dave Gilbert, technology editor at International Business Times UK, picked up Digital Writer of the Year.
Best Specialist Site for Journalism was handed to Emap for Nursing Times, while Best Freelance Writer was named as Teo Kermeliotis from CNN.
The New York Times global website was the recipient of the Best National/World News site, while The New York Times was also a winner of Best Use of Crowd Sourcing of Citizen Journalism for ‘Watching Syria’s War’.
The Times Tax Avoidance Investigations was named Best Campaign/Investigative Journalism, and Best Commentary/Blogging was also handed to the Times for its School Gate Blog.
The BBC News On Demand site won the Best Video Journalism prize, and the Reuters Wider Image website won Best Designed Site, which also won in the Photography category too.
Al Jazeera was another award winner in the Technical Innovation category, with Best App being handed to The Economist and Best Brand Development to Metro for its Digital Editions and Best Commercial Innovation to the Toronto Star for ‘Star Despatches’.
Best Lifestyle/Leisure News Site Awards went to both Hearst Magazines for goodhousekeeping.co.uk and MSN UK, with Best Business/Finance News Site being handed to agrimoney.com and Best Health/Education News Site to BACP for TherapyToday.net.
