Belfast Telegraph's Claire McNeilly does double to scoop top award again
The Belfast Telegraph's Claire McNeilly has been named one of the UK's top journalists in a glittering awards ceremony.
Claire won the Regional Award in the British Insurance Brokers' Association Journalist of the Year Awards in London yesterday – a title she also scooped last year.
Her success is hot on the heels of her CIPR Business Journalist of the Year award received last month, again similarly won by Claire in 2012.
The BIBA awards showcase the work of journalists providing a valuable service to the consumer.
Claire sparked the interest of the judges with a well researched but light-hearted piece on the pitfalls of not having the right holiday insurance.
Her entry also included an article on Environment Minister Alex Attwood's radical new proposals for learner drivers in Northern Ireland.
Speaking after the ceremony, Claire said: "My article was advice on holiday cover and how you have to be sure you have insurance.
"The judges said it was an in-depth investigation but that it also made them laugh.
"My other article on new plans for our learner drivers was a more serious one.
"This is not something you can do by yourself, you have to have the proper backing and a paper that is dedicated to covering the everyday issues that are important to people's lives."
