Belfast to get £400,000 mountain bike trail
Belfast is to get its first purpose-built mountain bike trail.
Work on the £400,000 12km of trails, to be built by Euro Services, begins at Barnett’s Demesne park next week.
Funding assistance has been provided by Sport NI and the Rural Development Programme.
Belfast City councillor Gerard McCabe said the aim of the project is to create an outstanding recreational facility for mountain bikers.
Mr McCabe said: “Approximately 600,000 walkers and cyclists use this recreational hub every year, and in the past there have been issues with unauthorised trails and jumps being established on the land. In creating this purpose-built facility we are responding to user demand and to health and safety concerns.”
