Belfast's Harbour coal yard accident man fights for his life in hospital
A man injured in a workplace accident at a coal yard in Belfast's Harbour estate continued to fight for his life last night.
He is being treated for his injuries in the intensive care unit at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital, a health trust spokeswoman confirmed.
It is understood the 45-year-old man became trapped in a coal conveyor belt at Hayes Fuels depot.
A rapid response paramedic raced to the man's assistance, and an Ambulance Service doctor treated the seriously injured patient at the scene.
Three fire and rescue appliances were also dispatched to the incident,
When they arrived, they found that the injured man had already been freed from the machinery by his colleagues.
The company has so far declined to comment.
The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) has launched an investigation.
