Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital is experiencing an increase in the Norovirus winter vomiting bug.

Admissions to two wards are being restricted. Staff are asking members of the public not to visit the hospital if they have recently experienced vomiting or had diarrhoea.

A spokesperson for the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust said: "Vomiting and diarrhoea, while contagious, normally passes within 48 hours.

"Although all the appropriate measures are being taken to eliminate the virus, I am asking the public for their help in preventing the spread of infection.

"Please do not visit the hospital if you have had vomiting and diarrhoea; please be diligent in your hand washing when entering and leaving wards or clinical areas; please do not bring food or fruit on to the ward."
