Belvoir women’s group starts up

Published 29/04/2009

A new woman’s group which has started up in the Belvoir area held a sponsored walk this week to raise money for local charities and towards the group’s services.

Eight women from the Belvoir Woman’s Improvement Group were involved in the fundraising activity on Wednesday, April 29, at Stormont Park.

The group was set up around four weeks ago and forms part of the Community Association for Belvoir and Milltown.

Kathy Reid, the group’s chairwoman, said: “The association works for everyone in the community but we are for women in the community.

“We’re not professionals, we’re just ordinary women.

“But if any women need any help we are here to guide them. Even if they just want to have a coffee and a chat.”

She said the group is trying to get a Sure Start facility set up, is meeting up with other women’s groups and is going to approach local schools about a programme to prevent children taking drugs.

“We are trying to get as many facilities set up to show that there is a demand,” said Ms Reid.
