An overturned bin lorry caused a mess in more ways than one after it toppled on the main Londonderry to Limavady road.

The incident occurred at the roundabout at City of Derry Airport where the 18-wheeler lay on its side, causing delays to traffic.

A local resident said that the footpath was popular with walkers and added that it was "very lucky" that no one was seriously injured.

The road remained open but the incident caused delays as lifting equipment was brought in to right the lorry.

Police and fire crews attended the scene, however, it is believed that the driver was not injured.

It is thought the lorry clipped the kerb as it turned off the roundabout on to Clooney Road.
