Block evacuated after device found

A small explosive device has been found at an apartment block in east Belfast.

Residents of the property on the Short Strand Road were evacuated last night as Army bomb disposal experts examined the suspicious object.

The Short Strand is at a volatile interface between nationalist and unionist neighbourhoods.

The PSNI said the object that triggered the alert was declared a "small viable device". Residents have been allowed to return to their homes.

Officers appealed to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
