The director of a failed bingo hall company on the north coast that went bust owing almost £1m has been struck off.

Aldo Peter Morelli (56), of Meadowlands in Portstewart, was handed a six-year boardroom ban by the Department for the Economy.

Bingo Vision Limited went into liquidation on March 27, 2014, with debts of £941,554.

Mr Morelli accepted that he had kept back just over £324,600 in tax, including £129,000 in bingo duty and machine gaming duty.

The businessman also failed to file annual returns and annual accounts.

In addition, he accepted that he did not co-operate fully with the official receiver by not accounting for the company expenses.

The company operated a number of bingo halls at Castle Street, Ballymoney; Fairhill Street, Ballycastle, and Wakehurst Industrial Estate, Ballymena.
