A man's body has been recovered from Belfast's River Lagan following a three-day search.

A Belfast Community Rescue Service (CRS) spokesman said it was found yesterday afternoon.

He said searches by the CRS Sonar Team and PSNI Dive Team led to the body being recovered late in the afternoon.

"The co-operative working of the two teams managed to bring the search to a conclusion. Our sympathies are extended to the family and friends of the deceased," said the CRS spokesman.

A man had reportedly entered the water near Donegall Quay on Friday evening. A member of the public had attempted to rescue the man but was unsuccessful.

The deceased is believed to have been a foreign national.

Belfast SDLP councillor Nichola Mallon said the news was "deeply distressing" and said her thoughts and prayers are with the man's family and friends.
