Boybands topping the charts in 2012 calendar sales
Teen sensations One Direction have topped Northern Ireland's celebrity calendar charts in a list dominated by clean-cut pop acts.
The group, which finished third in last year's X-Factor and includes Irish singer Niall Horan, replaces last year's chart topper Justin Bieber, who slipped into fourth place.
JLS, another former X Factor group, are in fifth place, while Westlife, the oldest group in the list, show they are still a hit with the public at No 9 in the chart. Jedward's popularity shows no sign of waning as they chart in 11th place.
The Calendar Club, which compiled the list after studying sales across its 10 Northern Ireland stores, said the chart is a good barometer of who is likely to be successful in 2012.
And that’s bad news for former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole and pop hunks Michael Bublé and Take That, who all made the Top 20 last year but have failed to chart this time.
Premiership teams take up six slots in the Top 20, with Manchester United in second place, edging out Liverpool in third.
Liverpool FC's easel calendar is also listed in 12th spot, followed by Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea.
But it's not just hugely-successful pop acts and Premiership clubs which householders want to look at every day. Three calendars depicting countryside scenes chart in 7th, 18th and 19th place.
Natalie Taylor, marketing manager with The Calendar Club, said: “As ever, 2012 calendar sales can't be isolated from popular culture trends, with One Direction blitzing sales across Ulster.”
