Health Minister and South Belfast MLA Michael McGimpsey officially unveiled a new welcome sculpture at the entrance to the Taughmonagh area of south Belfast last week.

The sculpture was designed by the local community with assistance from Groundwork NI’s Greencare III programme — an environmental regeneration initiative which is funded through Belfast City Council and the Housing Executive.

Speaking at the unveiling, Minister McGimpsey said: “This sculpture helps to give the area a sense of identity and serves to highlight all the good work that has been done by local residents and stakeholders.

“This sculpture complements the wider environmental improvements being undertaken in the area through the Greencare III programme."

Norman Earle, chairman of Taughmonagh Residents’ Association, said: “This project has brought a renewed sense of community identity and pride.

“I hope it will be enjoyed by all local residents, thereby enhancing their quality of life."
