Burst tyre closes airport

A runway at a busy airport was shut tonight after a landing plane burst a tyre.

The incident occurred at Cardiff airport as an Aer Lingus flight EI3296 arrived from Dublin just after 3.30pm.

The aircraft came to a stop on the runway and all 37 passengers disembarked safely and were taken by bus to the terminal to be reunited with their luggage.

A spokesman for the airport said: "The Cardiff Airport runway is closed while the recovery of the aircraft is under way. The airport remains open however no flights are arriving or departing at this time. Inbound flights have been diverted, passengers due to depart will be updated regularly on progress.

"Anybody travelling through Cardiff Airport should check in as normal and contact their airline if they have any questions."
